The Brownsword Group joined the thousands of other companies over the UK last Friday by hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning. There was cake aplenty, a raffle, tombola and ‘guess the number of sweets’. A whopping £486.94 was raised, and if this wasn’t enough, the Managing Director then generously rounded it up, to £1,000!
The coffee morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. They ask people all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone they raised £25 million.
The first ever Macmillan coffee morning happened back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea; guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective they did it again the next year – only that time nationally. Since then, the coffee mornings have raised over £138 million for Macmillan, not counting this year.
